About Us

Our Creative Studio welcomes sewing enthusiast of any gender and ages 6 to 99+. Our regular weekly classes run from September to June. We offer various Sewing Workshops for kids and adults thorughout the year and run Creative Sewing Camps during Winter, March & Summer Breaks, as well as on PA Days (TDSB & YRDSB).

All our classes are ongoing and “freestyle”. Anyone is welcome to join in at anytime and attend as many sessions as they want (space permitting of course). For anyone who is new to sewing, you will start off by learning all the sewing basics, while working on an intro project. Once that is completed, you will be able to start working on any project of your choice, and we are here to assist you.

During our classes, students are welcome to bring in their own sewing patterns, notions and fabrics. We also have our own extensive sewing pattern library to chose from from if needed, as well as our own retail corner where we have precut fabric bundles, and some beautiful designer fabrics and notions for sale. If there is something specific you would like to make, which would require custom sewing pattern, we can make it for you for an extra cost.

Attendance:

We keep attendance for all our students. If you/your child can’t make it to the class, you are required to notify us as soon as possible. Any missed class can be made up the following week during the session.

Studio Holidays and closures:

Our studio is closed on all the long weekend statutory holidays.

The benefits of sewing

Kids

"Knowing how to sew, for anyone, is a useful life skill with lifelong practical applications and many health benefits. To sew requires concentration and focusproblem solving skillshand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. It challenges left brain thinking and is a great way to express ones creativity and individuality. And, let’s not forget, sewing can be just plain fun!

Studies have shown that children, especially those in the 6-12 year old group, who learn to sew gain many mental as well as physical developmental benefits. It has been found that the various tasks involved in sewing a simple project, such as following pattern instructions, fabric selection, color coordination, sizing and fitting all help stimulate creative thinkingpromotes self-esteem and perseverance. Completing a sewing project from start to finish fosters a sense of accomplishment that can boost a child’s morale and self confidence. And, the tactile nature of sewing helps strength a child’s hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

Other notable benefits include providing children a vehicle for personal and creative expression. It is a productive way for kids to use personal time and create independent work. And, it opens the door to future potential career paths. Sewing really is good for kids."

Adults & Seniors

Sewing has also many great benefits for adults and seniors! Set aside the obvious: no missing buttons, or dropped hems...more money in the bank because we make more of our own clothes, sewing requires us to focus both physically and mentally on a task, which improves concentration and lowers blood pressure.  Sewing also builds self-confidence. In an article published in the United Kingdom, it was found by researchers that people sewing and quilting benefited people in ways that they didn’t get in outdoor activities. They were able to develop a stronger cognitive sense, as well as their emotional and social well-being.

Another big benefit is that it can protect from dementia later in life. By doing tasks which require remembering how to do small steps, it helps to keep brain active and moving, and just like any muscle in the body, brain needs to be worked and trained. Sewing can help to do that, and keep the mind strong going into old age.

A little bit about me

Apparently I was only 4 years old when I cut out a corner of our living room curtains to make a dress for my doll…. I guess I always had it in me! Creativity was in everything I did when I was growing up and once I got officially introduced to sewing at the age of 9, there was no looking back.

My Passion for creation and making clothes continued over the years and eventually turned into an exciting fashion career.

My career took me through all the important aspects of the garment industry: from initial conceptual design & fashion illustration, to pattern drafting & sewing, to photoshoots, marketing & retail! I was very fortunate to experience it all.

Today I am a mother of two adorable kids and after a short break from the fashion industry I decided to begin a new adventure, teaching others the wonderful world of sewing! I also offer freelance services in design & product development, where I help new and aspiring designers to bring their ideas to life.

“Without a doubt the highlight of my 6 year old daughters' March Break was the two fashion/sewing classes she attended at Sew Far, Sew Good! She loved working with Karine, had lots of fun and made and designed some beautiful and unique pieces that she can call her own. As a parent, Karine made me feel at ease with dropping my daughter off and was always quick to respond to inquiries. My daughter can't wait to go back!”

“My mom and I took an intro workshop for baby items and Karine was absolutely amazing. Karine is a great instructor and made us feel like pros. Our finished products were amazing and we walked away with many tips and tricks to be able to continue this at home! Better than a 5 star experience!”
